    Various venues in Hollywood, California

  • Where will my film screen?
    At the TCL Chinese 6 Theater in Hollywood, CA

  • Can I stay nearby?
    Yes. The Roosevelt and Loews Hotels are the closest to the Venue. (Check back for our exclusive rate)

  • Do you screen films other than at your festival?
    Yes, we hold Monthly Screenings at TCL Chinese Theater.

  • How much is the entry fee?
    Prices range from $40-$80 based on deadlines- WE DO NOT OFFER WAIVERS

  • Do you have early bird / late fees?
    Yes we do. Early Bird is generally $40 and Late is $80 (Student has different rate- Check submission platform for price)

  • Can I get refunded if my film is not eligible?
    No, you cannot get a refund if your film is not eligible. Therefore please carefully check the guidelines of the section(s) if the film is eligible or not - prior to submitting the film

  • I submitted twice, can I get a refund?
    We DO NOT offer REFUNDS. So please make sure you pay attention when submitting your project.

  • I don’t have a credit card. What can I do?

  • I’m a student. What are the special conditions?
    There is a reduced submission fee. Please check the platform you are submitting on for specific price based on date. We do not offer waivers

  • I want to submit my film to more than one section. Do I have to pay an entry fee for each section?

  • Should I be concerned about premiering my film at another festival and blowing my chances at getting into the HollyShorts Film Festival?
    Our Festival does not have any formal premiere policies for short films. We feel strongly that HSFF is a platform for all independent filmmakers to showcase their work. We have 0 restrictions on premiere status

  • I see you've been named an Official Qualifying Film Festival on the Academy Awards website. What does that mean? Is my film eligible?
    The film/filmmaker who wins the Grand Jury Prize Short Film Award may be eligible to submit to the Academy Awards in the short film category. Please review the submission guidelines, if you'd like to be considered



  • What are your Submission Dates?
    Early Bird: February 1, 2019

    Regular Deadline: April 5, 2019

    Late Deadline: May 17, 2019

    Extended Deadline: May 31, 2019

  • What are your submission fees/do you grant waivers?
    Please see here. At this time we DO NOT GRANT FEE WAIVERS. If you are an alum, please email for a discount code

  • I want to submit to the Monthly Screenings, do you offer waivers?
    We DO NOT GRANT FEE WAIVERS for any of our submissions

  • How many submissions do you get each year & how many screen?
    We received almost 4,000 submissions and screened over 405 projects as of our 2018 edition

  • Can I send a rough cut of my film for you to judge prior to accepting?
    Yes, but we prefer to see the finished product if possible. If accepted- we need to review the new cut. Timing should be the same

  • How can I pay?
    Payment is accepted only in US dollars, by check (payable to HollyShorts Film Festival), money order, Visa or MasterCard. We cannot accept American Express. Checks must have a printed address and telephone number. A photocopy of your student ID must be enclosed with payment (If submitting under STUDENT category). International entries must pay by Visa, MasterCard or money order in U.S. dollars. Do not send cash.Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds

  • What if I don't get in, can I get a refund?
    Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds

  • When will I be notified?
    Notifications START July 17th on a rolling basis. You may find out before this date and you will find out after this date for up to 2 weeks.
