2014 Selection Features The Most Star-Studded Lineup in Festival’s History


Hollywood August 5, 2014—HollyShorts has announced the full lineup of short films for the upcoming 10thanniversary of the HollyShorts Film Festival taking place August 14-23, 2014 at the TCL Chinese Theater and Roosevelt Hotel, the biggest short film festival in Los Angeles.

Here’s short snapshot of the star powered-shorts showing in the HollyShorts lineup:

The Magic Bracelet starring Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, Kaitlin Doubleday, Bailee Madison, Jackson Rathbone and directed by Jon Poll (screens 8/15 at 12noon).

Last Call directed by Camille Delamarre who is currently directing Transporter 4 (screens 8/15 at 2:30pm).

Chocolate Milk Directed by Michael Ring and J.R. Soldano starring Harvey Guillen (8/15 at 2:30pm).

Alex Prager’s Face in The Crowd starring Elizabeth Banks (screening 8/15 at 7:30pm).

Today’s The Day starring Danny Devito and directed by Daniel Cloud Campos (screening 8/16 at 7:30pm).

Bulimia: The Musical starring Gary Anthony Williams, Cedric Yarbrough, Jamie Denbo, Katherine Burns and directed by Kristin McCasey (screening 8/16 at 10pm).

Life Coach starring Andy Dick directed by Remond Francois (screening 8/20 at 12noon).

Interstate starring Gina Rodriguez and directed by Camille Stochitch (screens 8/20 at 5pm).

One Armed Man executive produced by Philip Seymore Hoffman, starring Terry Kinney and directed by Tim Guinee (screens 8/21 at 5pm).

The Box directed by Jon Huertas and Andrew Bikichky (screening 8/21 at 5pm).

All of the short films among the rest of the entire lineup of 400+ shorts will be premiering during the 10-day extravaganza which features slew of galas, panels, conversations with the next gen filmmakers, private receptions and much more.

Programming Highlights below, all screenings take place at the TCL Chinese Theaters:

The $40K Latino Art Beat Youth Film challenge program takes place on Friday at 12noon.

Canada and France dominated this year’s top international submissions and HollyShorts will feature a Canadian short film showcase on Friday August 15 at 2:30pm and Vive La France, a French films showcaseon Saturday at 12noon.

On Friday August 15 horror fans can catch some of the scariest short movies during the 10pm Horror Shorts program Presented by Eli Roth’s The Crypt.

HollyShorts will have two Midnight Madness Shorts programs: one at 11:59pm on Friday August 15 and one at 11:59pm on Saturday August 16.

Family Friendly and animated short films screen on Saturday August 16 at 2:30pm. The Saturday August 16lineup also includes a top tier Romance Shorts program at 5pm, Dramatic Shorts at 7pm and the prime time Comedy Shorts showcase at 10pm.

Sunday August 17 is Washington Day at HollyShorts. At 12noon the festival will showcase an array of top short movies shot in Washington State. Following the screening is a special panel devoted to production incentives in Washington taking place at the Roosevelt Hotel. The Washington Films consortium lead by Evil Slave will also host a cocktail reception at the Film Conference at 6pm.

Also on Sunday August 17 is the Student Shorts Showcase at 2:30pm, and not to be missed VFX Showcase at5pm and Sci Fi Shorts at 7:30pm. At 10pm Sunday night is the Thrillers Shorts program.

There are 2 Documentary Shorts programs, one Monday August 18 at 12noon and one on Thursday August 21 at 12noon.

Monday August 18 also features Time Machine at 2:30pm a program of period piece short films, also a second program of International Shorts at 5pm, the fest’s popular Music Videos celebration at 7:30pm, which will feature the bands/groups in attendance and Animation for Grown Ups program at 10pm.

Tuesday August 19 at 12noon SAGIndie Presents OutShorts, 2:30pm is Women in Film shorts, followed by a5pm Drama program, a 7:30pm Thriller program and the 10pm Action Shorts show.

Wednesday August 20 at HollyShorts is Digital Day Presented By General Assembly. At 12noon is the Romantic Comedy program, 2:30pm marks the Coming of Age Shorts, 5pm showcases a top Drama Shorts program, 7:30pm is Funny Shorts with 10pm closing out the day with the popular Web Series program. The Film Conference at the Roosevelt on Digital Day will feature top digital sessions and a special cocktail at 6pmPresented by General Assembly.

Thursday August 21 is Awards night at HollyShorts. The ceremony takes place at 8pm at the Roosevelt. But prior to the Awards, audiences can check out the HollyShorts Alumni program at 2:30pm, Time Machineperiod pieces at 5pm, and more student shorts at 7:30pm.

New this year are two additional days of screenings, Friday August 22 and Saturday August 23. Fridayfeatures: Take Me There program at 2:30pm, Indi.com winners and the 48 hour Disability Competition winners program at 5pm, Drama Shorts at 7:30pm, and Friday Night Live at 10pm. Saturday features: Next Gen Showcase at 12noon, The HollyShorts Monthly Screenings Winners showcase at 2:30pm, Short But Sweetshow at 5pm and Last But Not Least at 7:30pm.

There will also be a closing alumni Feature Doc presentation at 10pm on 8/23, which will be announced by the organizers shortly. At 10pm is the final closing bash for the festival, the location for that will also be announced shortly.


This year, HollyShorts has achieved records across the board. Starting with it’s famed monthly screening series, which expanded beyond Los Angeles and into Miami, Austin and New York, the festival received well over 1600 submissions for the August mega-festival. The organizers have accepted and programed a fest record 400 short movies. Filmmakers from Canada, France, Spain, Mexico, the UK, Italy, Haiti, UK, Ireland, Israel, South Africa will transcend to Hollywood in the coming weeks all for HollyShorts.  Film schools such as USC, UCLA, Chapman, Florida State, NYU, Columbia, Tisch Asia, NYFA and AFI are all represented with official selections.

After incredible feedback from last year’s panel series, the organizers have once again beefed up the lineup for the HollyShorts Film Conference, a co-located event taking place at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Seed&Spark, the one stop shop where filmmakers can crowdfund, distribute and interact with their audiences is joining forces with Tugg, the platform that gives audiences power to bring movies to local theaters to deliver the keynote address at the upcoming the Film Conference, which is Presented By Method Studios. Other participating companies include Warner Bros. TV, Lionsgate, CBS, General Assembly, PGA Digital, CSA, Route 1 Films, DigitalLA, Voltage, Electus, Women In Film, Shout Factor’s Scream Factory, Fangoria, ShortsHD, UCLA Extension, IndieFlix, Tribeca Film Festival, The Weinstein Co., AMPAS, The Hollywood Reporter, New Filmmakers LA, Evil Slave, Quick Film Budget, Final Draft, Full Moon Entertainment, Circus Road, Three Point Capital, among others.

HollyShorts is awarding nearly $200,000 worth of production and scholarship prizes.  Company 3 is awarding $45,000 in Post-Production Services including $15,000 for the Best Short, $10,000 For Best Director, $10,000 for Best Cinematographer $5,000 For Best Music Video and $5,000 in Post services for Best Commercial. Method Studios will award a $10,000 Post-Production Services Prize for Best VFX. Latino Art Beat (LAB) and HollyShorts Youth Film Competition celebrating young filmmakers’ will award the winning young filmmaker a $40,000 scholarship prize to attend The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA).
